hello from south africa!!!! :) :)
can I first say how great it feels to actually be typing on a computer right now?? J We haven’t had internet on the base since I arrived. And now it’s working! J right now i am sitting with some friends in the middle of a coffee house enjoying a milkshake and sharing a plate of fries... or chips as they call them. they will look at you weird if you call them fries. along with many other things.
So i guess i should tell you how south africa is I’ve been here for about 2 weeks now. and it is absolutely beautiful! We are in the mountain area… well more like rolling hills. But they call it mountains. It’s really beautiful here! The base is awesome! There is so much space where you can get away and be alone with the Lord. So I love it. We are based in Pretoria in the middle of nowhere in the “sticks” as they call it – pretty much in the middle of a forest.
There are people here from literally all over the world – Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, USA, England, France, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Italy. We are very well diverse. There are 36 of us and 17 are from South Africa alone. I’ve been learning their language a little. They speak Afrikaans, pronounced africons. It’s a lot like Dutch but they put a little spin on it J I have 3 other roommates, Sin Mei, Moshibudi, and Jenny J 2 are from South Africa and the other one is from Hong Kong. They all speak English but others are not so great at it. So that’s been pretty fun trying to communicate. i have REALLY enjoyed getting to know everyone. we are already getting close and tight knit. i love how everyone has the same heart for God but all from different cultures! it shows the different attributes of God because we all are created in His likeness. I love it!
Right now, we just got through with orientation and started the 6 week intensive healing program called InsideOut. They assign us all "life coaches" that walk with us throughout the whole process. Essentially we are going to let the Lord show us what areas in our life that we need to heal from and they are going to walk through it with us. I am a little nervous but very excited to see how the Lord is going to show up in my life and show me more of who He has created me to be and how I can change to resemble Jesus.
Prayer Requests:
Please pray that I will be sensitive to the Lord in what He wants to change in my heart. I am soo willing to change and all I want is for Jesus to come in and crack me, break me, and put me back together again. Please pray that through the hard parts I will trust God. Also, please pray for my team members. A lot of them have come down with some sort of sickness. Either Pneumonia or a stomach bug and it is spreading fast. Please pray against sickness.
